Womens Self Defence

KNOW THE FACTS

  • Almost 500,000 Australian women have experienced violence, threats or harassment in the past 12 months. (Source; Women's Safety Report, Australian Bureau of Statistics)

  • A hostile attack can happen to anyone; Children, Teenagers, Mothers, Single Women, Elderly and even males are victims of sexual assault.

  • Rapists are not necessarily strangers. In fact sexual assault is most often perpetrated by an acquaintance, friend, neighbour or relative of the victim.

  • Rape is a crime of violence, not passion

  • 75% of sexual abuse (non rape) occurs to under 18's. (Source: Victorian Police Crime Statistics 2008/2009)

BE AWARE

  • Accept the fact that you are a potential rape or sexual assault victim.

  • It is strategically sound to prepare for emergencies in advance of danger. This way, in the event of an attack, you will feel less fear, follow a plan and take action.

  • Lack of mental and physical preparedness usually results in confusion, hesitation and panic. What would you do if you were attacked?

  • Learning self defence is just plain smart, no different than taking a CPR first aid course, or owning a fire extinguisher or first aid kit.
